OVER $3,000 RAISED FOR LGBTQ+ CHARITIES THROUGHOUT PRIDE MONTH

We’re all probably happily recovering from a pretty successful pride month and now it’s time to reflect on what the celebration really meant to us. Of course it's a lot about rainbows and pure expression of self-affirmation, but it took some very tough moments to get here.

In this article, we will share our proudest pride moments and the support received from our fabulous apparel. As you know, June is recognized as Pride month. For every shirt purchased from our Pride Collection we PROUDLY (*wink wink*) donated a portion of proceeds to foundations such as GLAD, It Gets Better, Stonewall Community Foundation and Human Rights Foundation, not just during pride month but all year long.

What is Pride?

Pride is an annual celebration of the ongoing pursuit of equality, dignity and visibility in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community to respect the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. Originally, the last Sunday in June was at first celebrated as "Gay Pride Day," however the pleasant day was adaptable. In a significant amount of time, the holiday developed to incorporate a month-long series of occasions.

Today, festivities incorporate pride marches, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and shows, and LGBTQ Pride Month occasions draw in many members all throughout the United States. Remembrances are held during this month for those individuals from the local area who have been lost to wrongdoings or HIV/AIDS. The reason for the dedicatory month is to perceive the effect that lesbian, gay, sexually open and transsexual people have had on history locally, broadly, and globally.

It’s such an exciting holiday that we can’t even think straight!

Idea Nest Cares

The overall goal for pride is to be loud, proud and you! Everyone should know that they deserve to be loved and celebrated. What's a better time to show that than pride month?

It is important in a different way to each and every person who celebrates.

We are dedicated to coming together as allies of our LGBTQ brothers and sisters who were happily born this way. During the month of June, our company had the pleasure of raising $3,244.83 in proceeds from each sale benefiting charities dedicated to helping the LQBTQ community. We want to be able to provide the apparel for you to be able to flaunt fabulously at any pride event.

What Charities Did We Donate To?

Every charity we chose was carefully selected and researched. We chose the ones we were most passionate about and that we felt aligned with their mission. They were:

  • GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD):

Through strategic litigation, public policy advocacy, and education, GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) works in New England and nationally to create a just society free of discrimination based on gender identity and expression, HIV status, and sexual orientation. GLAD is committed to fulfilling this mission with urgency and perseverance. To succeed, we will lead boldly and be guided by the following aspirational values.

  • It Gets Better:

The It Gets Better Project exists to uplift, empower, and connect LGBTQ+ youth around the globe.

Founded in 2010 by syndicated columnist Dan Savage and his partner Terry Miller, the It Gets Better Project envisions a world where all LGBTQ+ youth are free to live equally and know their worthiness and power and individuals. To achieve this vision, the It Gets Better Project leverages all forms of media to bring hope to LGBTQ+ youth and to influence public discourse on LGBTQ+ issues.

  • Human Rights Campaign Foundation:

As the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Americans, the Human Rights Campaign represents a force of more than 3 million members and supporters nationwide — all committed to making HRC's vision a reality.

HRC envisions a world where lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.

  • Gay For Good:

Gay For Good aims to energize and mobilize the LGBTQ community to interact with the greater community by volunteering our time to various social welfare and environmental service projects. We hope to, over time, support goodwill and understanding between the LGBTQ and greater city communities through regular collaborative volunteer service projects.

  • Transgender Law Center:

Transgender Law Center (TLC) is the largest national trans-led organization advocating for a world in which all people are free to define themselves and their futures. Grounded in legal expertise and committed to racial justice, TLC employs a variety of community-driven strategies to keep transgender and gender nonconforming people alive, thriving, and fighting for liberation.

  • Stonewall Community Foundation:

We strengthen the LGBTQ Movement by making smart, values-driven investments in dynamic organizations, projects, and leaders. And as a public foundation, we do so in close partnership with donors and the very people working on the front lines of progress. We fund over 100 nonprofits a year, in more than 30 issue areas. We also house five scholarship programs, including the largest in the country created to support LGBTQ refugees and asylum seekers.

Our Work Here Is Not Done

Our mission has always been to lead with equality and inclusivity for all. Despite this, we received some backlash for our posts and charity projects throughout the pride month. We wanted to highlight this because we feel it is important to call out injustice and bias when we see it and refuse to let the few negative comments deter us from our end goal.

If you ask us, love doesn’t have to be centered around just one day, week, or month. Each person -- whether they are straight, gay, lesbian, trans, ace, or bisexual -- has the ability to spread love to the moon and back. Our team stands with the LGBTQ community and offer a variety of apparel for those who want to share their support. We would like to give a special thank you to those who continuously show support for the LGBTQ community and will continue to do so.
